Le Bon Temps Viendra (Flute Choir - 2012)

This 5 minute work for a choir of 7 flutes was composed for my former student Anna Harcourt, and performed by a flute choir which included some of Anna's ex-students on her wedding to Matthew on 11th August 2012. The performers were Nick Planas, Charlotte Read, Freya O'Connell, Anna Getley, Rachel Tindale and Grace Douglas - a seventh player was ill on the day and so we performed without the bass part during the wedding.

Le Bon Temps Viendra translates as The Good Times Are Coming, and is a motto of the Harcourt family.

The work comprises four sections, with no breaks. It starts with a Lento introduction, then breaks into a Lively Waltz, after which the flutes ring the wedding bells 'Joyfully', before finally reprising the Lento. The work finishes with three slow and progressively softer chords.

Orchestration: 5 Flutes in C, Alto Flute in G, Bass Flute in C

A version has also been performed with 3 flutes, 3 clarinets and a bassoon.
